Stock Photography

Stock Photography, also known as photo archive, image banks or stock photos, refers to the body of photography in which pictures are open to public use by graphic designers, filmmakers, publishers, individuals or anyone else who wants to use them. Catalogs of stock photos, generally available to download from the Internet, save people time and money in the fact that they don’t have to hire a photographer and wait for the prints.
Stock PhotographyDepending on your needs, photo archives carry still photos, illustrations or video clips. Similarly, different image banks will have different regulations on the access to their stock photos: while some photo archives may require that users pay for each image or pay a monthly fee or unlimited use, others may grant users free access to their photos. Photo banks may also limit the ways in which their stock photography can be used. For example, users may not be allowed to manipulate the photo or use it in obscene or offensive ways.
Another industry associated with stock photography is royalty-free photography. Photo archives will solicit stock photography from photographers. Once a photo bank has purchased photos, they are part of the bank’s royalty-free stock that users can purchase.
