Tips For Making The Most Of Your Corporate Image From A Los Angeles Business Portrait Photographer

By Gary Morgan

You can only make one first impression. If potential clients are going to be checking out your company's website, the first things they learn about you will be on your management page. You have to be as professional looking and appealing as possible. A Los Angeles business portrait photographer has some great tips for creating a lasting, and great, first impression.

On the day you are sitting for your photo, you should be especially careful about what you wear. The type of business you are in will dictate your choice is certain ways. There are some things you don't want to wear no matter what kind of business you are in however.

Thin stripes and busy patterns won't photograph well. They can look great in person, but when they are photographed, a moire effect can show up. This becomes much more apparent once a photo is reduced to fit a web page or corporate brochure. Solid colors and simple designs are often your best choices.

Something else you need to consider is how the picture is going to be used. A lot of times company photos are turned into black and white or reduced to thumbnails. When that happens subtle variations in the colors in the clothing you are wearing will vanish. A pale pink tie might look great against a pure white shirt, but in black and white the two colors will just melt into one another.

If you're in some kind of creative field, where casual clothing is appropriate, be careful about wearing a tee shirt with a logo or image of any kind. If the company photo is a head and upper chest shot, the logo will be probably be cut off anyway. Wildly patterned ties or shirts may not translate well when the picture is reduced.

When you are having a professional photograph taken, the photographer is probably going to have you sitting under high intensity lighting. If you sweat easily, you don't want your face, especially your brow and upper lip, to come out shiny. Applying some foundation is a good idea for the women in the group. If you don't feel comfortable with that, run a damp cloth over your face right before you get in front of the camera.

Photographers say they are always surprised when clients come to their studios for portrait sessions with their hair flying in all directions. Women are generally more guilty of this than men, because most men have less to work with. Dropping a hairbrush and some gel or hairspray into your purse is a good idea. You never know when a wind gust will catch you unawares. You should pay as much attention to your hair as you do to your clothing.

Whether or not to wear glasses is always an issue. The experts say you should wear them if that is what you normally do. If you only use them to read or for computer work, leave them off. If you're going to wear them for the picture, they have to be spotless.
